Mantain Your Bone Density

What You Need to Maintain Your Bone Density in Order to Fight Osteoporosis

By: KnowYourInnerSelf , articlecube.com

The bones are mainly composed of collagen and calcium phosphate. Collagen, the connective tissue hardened part of the bone is that the calcium phosphate, and bone health, his life has been significantly reduced due to bone fractures. That is why it is essential to complement this framework with vitamins and minerals needed to maintain good bone density at the time of his life, when bone density is likely to deteriorate.

It starts to happen, aged 30 to 35 and women at menopause accelerates when their ovaries stop producing the hormone estrogen, which is needed to maintain bone health. At the time of their bone mass drops former involves the creation of a condition known as the osteopenia, or reduced bone mass, osteoporosis and then, when bones are fragile, porous and very sensitive fractures.

Before looking at what we can do to improve your chances of developing osteoporosis, is close to how to develop the bone, making it easier to understand the corrective measures that can be taken.

Calcium is the most common mineral in the body, and the vast majority is in bones and teeth. Phosphorus is also important for bone health because, as already mentioned, which is composed of collagen in the bones, which hardened by calcium phosphate. The two main uses of phosphorus in bone structure of animals and metabolism, as phosphates are also essential for the vast majority of the production of energy from chemical reactions in your body.

Calcium has other functions within the organization with the exception of bones, but included the exchange of fluids within and between cells, maintaining your heart and blood clotting. Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium from their diet, through the membrane of the duodenum. More calcium is absorbed in the small intestine, and calcium is also the majority of jobs when it is a form soluble in water.

In fact, the reason that in his kidney stones, for example, is that calcium is insoluble by the formation of calcium oxalate oxalic acid in foods such as soya beans and rhubarb. Fat regimes May also slow the absorption of calcium.

The estrogen plays an important role in bone physiology, and is an important factor in maintaining bone density in women. Bone is living tissue and is constantly absorbed and transformed life. The role of estrogen is a good balance between osteoclasts, cells that absorb bone, and osteoblasts, cells that the new bone tissue.

When estrogen is bad, this balance is lost, and instead of bone formation and resorption, constantly, to take place in surges, an initial area of new bone is formed, and then produce the absorption of some weeks later, resulting in a structure where there is a gap between the areas of bone. Over time, these increases in the gaps and weaken the integrity of bone structure.

This is not all. The effect of estrogen is to limit the period of active osteoclasts, so that areas of the bone is absorbed by the body are relatively low, so that the bone cavity can be removed easily fill with new bone by osteoblasts, which are driven by estrogen. When estrogen is imperfect, is not only the activity of bone, osteoblasts reduced, but the bone absorption of osteoclast activity is not regulated, and the deepest holes in the bone structure of osteoblasts able to fill.

The result is the loss of bone, more bone is reabsorbed formed. The end result of all that is the spongy bone tissue with many tiny holes and also with larger areas of bone missing. Finally, given a critical point and fractures in normal use. A simple transfer from one stage to another of breaking a bone in his weakest point, as the hip, where the collar bone thinning.

Not everyone is in the same risk, and there are certain risk factors, you should be aware of each of which could increase the potential for the development of weak bones. The condition affects mainly white or Asian women, and those with a small frame. If you smoke and drink too much alcohol, are also more prone to osteoporosis, even if exercise can help prevent. An inadequate intake of calcium and vitamin D also helps, and magnesium is an essential element of the development of strong bones.

The U. S. Department of Agriculture has conducted surveys that show American women only 50% of calcium recommended for good bone density. It is not only on foods that calcium is necessary for bone formation, but also magnesium and boron, and vitamin D helps calcium absorption in the intestine.

If you're on steroids, can make you prone to the disease of fragile bones. Unfortunately, the symptoms of osteoporosis is not clear until it has been a significant amount of bone loss, which explains why women after menopause, and more than 65 years, there should be a Exploration of bone density (DXA test). It is important to understand that osteoporosis is a disease that is not considered as such: you can not "capture", but was prepared following a gradual reduction in bone mineral density of your structure.

Their diet is important for you to prevent bone loss and osteoporosis later in life, and your lifestyle is also important. To reduce their daily consumption of alcohol will certainly help, and cigarette smoking has further delayed the activity of bone cells to create. Calcium and vitamin D help, but not limited to them.

If you want to maintain the smooth functioning of the bone and beyond menopause through the stage of life, you should take a supplement containing a balanced combination of vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy balance between the loss natural and bone regeneration. There is more to ensure that only calcium and vitamin D supplement to a balanced and takes them out of hand. You can watch the knowledge that you do what is good for your body and bone density.

Paths that Have a Heart

TRAVELLING ON THE PATH(S) THAT HAVE A HEART

By: Indra Gunawan

Discourse on spiritual awakening has increasingly and incessantly occurred in our society since the past decade. Many books on this subject have been published. Discussion, seminar and workshop have been largely organized, not only in the advanced countries but also in the developing countries like Indonesia. Some mention the 21st century as the spiritual century.

Some books have become best-seller and brought significant impact. Two of them are the James Redfield’s novel ‘The Celestine Prophecy’- in addition to his non-fiction version entitled ‘An Experiential Guide’ which contains a description essay – and–‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’ by Deepak Chopra, a doctor, an ayurvedhic expert and a productive writer.

‘The Celestine Prophecy’ exposes a critical mass of individual intensively practicing inner searching. It reveals that the number of people involving in this activity is increasing day after day. Seemingly, they begin to realize that life has a purpose and event happen for a reason so they try to search meaning behind each life event. There are, in fact, many’‘meaningful coincidences’, unpredictable coincidences, mystery that can totally change one’s destiny.

To bring about ‘meaningful coincidences’, according to the book, one must maintain an open mind, love others and take care of the nature, be here and now, activate the intuition and imagination and have much hope and prayer.

In his book ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’, Deepak Chopra urges that we put spiritual laws-which is no other else than the universal laws of nature- in practice. Although Deepak Chopra’s teachings are, in fact, the re-exploration of the ancient teachings of the East such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and some from Christianity, still his re-formulation becomes appropriate because in daily life people tend to live in disharmony with the nature. Aggressiveness, greed and hunger of dominating others and nature are of their life approach. Actually, there is truly a distinctive way towards success, prosperity and happiness that is by implementing the spiritual laws such as the law of pure potentiality, the law of giving, the law of karma, the law of least effort, the law of attention and desire, the law of detachment and the law of dharma.

Those spiritual teachings have become so significant to life as they teach love, morality and ethical ways, in achieving the objective of life. And they believe that happiness and abundance will be gained with effortless ease, love and peace of mind.

Not limited to James Redfield and Deepak Chopra, other spiritual gurus also define the role of energy. Energy in this context is not thermal, mechanical or chemical energy, but life energy. More or less they describe that ‘everything in the universe is made of energy and this energy creates all the forms and substances of what we call our reality’.

Adopting the theory of Quantum Physics, they determine that in the quantum realm, everything is interwoven and inseparable. As energy is the core of our life, one energy is by itself connected and inseparable from others, one people to others. It is stated further that we, humans, can project the energy by focusing our attention in the desired direction, influencing other energy systems and increasing the pace of coincidences in our lives’.

There are also spiritual gurus that distinguish energy between ‘higher vibrations’ and’‘lower vibrations’. What is meant by higher vibration is vibration of consciousness, gratitude, beauty, love, integrity, joy and trust. In contrary ‘lower vibration’ is vibration of anxiety, worry, envy, stress and ego-consciousness. In common term, it is called ‘positive energy’ and’‘negative energy’. Through awareness, practice of visualization and of course, meditation - we can put ourselves more in ‘higher vibration’ state, where it is externally and internally healthier and stress-free.

In fact, those spiritual teachings are meaningful to life as they teach us to live in harmony with others, make a living in ‘win-win’ principles instead of practicing ’‘homo homini lupus’, and to take care of the nature and environment.

Those teachings have similarities with the teachings in Pranic Healing, such as the motto like ‘Energy flows, where attention goes’ which is the basic principle in transferring energy from the healer to the patient or the energy movement beyond the space boundary. The character building in Pranic Healing such as constancy of effort and non-laziness; loving kindness and non-injury; generosity and non-stealing; honesty and justice; humility and self-control; the golden rule of yin and yang could even mutually enrich and complete the existing spiritual teachings.

The established religions (Christianity, Moslem, Buddhism, Confucianism, Judaism etc.), in fact, teach similar matters. The words and the way how the message is conveyed could be either similar or different. The spiritual teachings often derive inspiration from the essence of the established religions. While established religions are divine revelation, something given and dogmatic, spiritual teachings are the result of human’s struggle to obtain truth, peace, peace of mind and good character. One is from the top and the other one is from the bottom. Top down and bottom up. One is completing and strengthening the other to pursue the ideal matters meaning that they can mutually cooperate and help each other to achieve ‘the quality of life’.

A question may emerge; Is it a fact that those conditions exist in reality?. Furthermore, we may ask: Is religion and spirituality compatible to each other ? Or are they basically different and compatible?

New Age Movement

Observers consider those spiritual teachings as “the new age movement”. However, the acceptance of the movement is still in debate among the members owing to the difference of opinion about the perception of the ‘new age’ propagation. The movement is acceptable to some people but not to others. There are also some people who positively observe the movement as resurgence of self-consciousness which suits their current needs. Some just stand neutrally - observing and monitoring. Some other people, on the contrary, feel anxious and pessimistic assuming that the ’‘new age’ is actually nothing else than the ‘old age’ with the religious teachings, ancient traditions and beliefs. Giving the reason that ‘organized religion’ is inflexible, formal and dogmatic, the’‘new age’ enters new areas. Yet, it often goes too far and be experimental. This has become the concerns of people of the ’organized religion’ that the ‘new age’ will go beyond the ‘main stream’ and lost the way.

However, it is not simple to identify the ‘ideology’ behind what is called ‘new age’. Actually, the new age consists of schools, such as acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, herbalism, meditation, magic, numerology, feng shui, pyramidology, chi kung, yoga , reiki and pranic healing, etc.

In fact, the purpose of the new age movement is to offer some of other alternative ways to gain the higher quality of life in addition to what are commonly available and known, such as alternative medicine, alternative of the eastern thinking and life’s style which are closer to nature.

As earlier mentioned, the respond to the new age movement is still vary. Some people are open minded and interested to learn it as they find the new teachings and techniques significant to improve the quality of life towards happiness, health, progress and peacefulness. They are aware that life is hard, full of pressure. Rationality and logic are insufficient to solve the problems. They need to enter the non-rational, unseen and invisible world. Yes, to the world of mystery where they can obtain the answers to their problems. Who knows.

Those who fell the teachings beneficiary to life, will stay in one of the teachings or even steep themselves in the other similar teachings so as to be more ‘knowledgeable’ or perhaps’‘powerful’. In contrast, there are also people who feel the teachings over-promise and under-deliver, give too much promise but less significant results. They also observe the disharmony between the virtuous teachings and the daily practice of the masters. As they feel dissatisfaction, they prefer to leave the arena. Friction, hostility, power and money struggle that are apparently against virtuous teachings still occur even in spiritual organizations.

What is our attitude?

What is the attitude that should be shown by pranic healing movement in this phenomenon?. Being unconcerned and ignoring what happen outside ? Some may consider that to deal with such matters is just a matter of wasting energy as there are still a pile of big work to do. There are always people or organization that could not accept the ‘new age’ teachings, wherever and whenever.

However, it is considerable that some of the pranic healers – especially in Indonesia–– may still experience inner struggle and anxiety in searching the ultimate truth. Most of them are, in fact, religious personalities, actively involved in their religious community, prays in the mosque, church or vihara. They are quite shocked when people stamp them as the follower of–‘new religion’. To their perception, what they are practicing is universal wisdom that contain in most of all religions and not ‘new religion’. It is a kind of character building blended with supernatural power.

The question is not about character building but the discourse on the ‘power of mind’- the incredible power gained through meditation, visualization and breathing art to create miracles. The ‘power of mind’, the ‘energy’ are considered too dominant, pushing backwards the existence of God, the Creator. Sometimes, we are over-confident with our ‘brain-power’ and ‘will-power’ that we put ‘will’ and ‘human desire’ in priority. In our religion, it is taught about ‘surrender’. “Do what You want, and not what I want”.

In our personal dialogue, we perhaps deny being one of those schools’. Pranic healing glorifies God and recognizes the God’s authority. We always say prayer for the assistance and guidance from God at the beginning of a course or healing session. It is good if it is done sincerely and not only for ritual purposes. We are taught to be humble, willing to admit weaknesses and to reflect ourselves. Is it right that searching ‘supernatural power’ too enthusiastic can even lead us entering the dangerous area?. Miracle is not only from God , but also from other neutral power, even from the dark forces.

A colleague once formulated as follows : ‘We have come into the borders. The difference between the real and unreal, between reality and imagination, seen and unseen is indistinct. So, be aware!” This could be just a caveat for us.

In our society, Pranic healing movement has a significant moral responsibility. It is expected not to become an exclusive but inclusive movement, to go hand in hand with other movement and to become salt of others. It could, by honesty, straighten what is considered wrong matters. Upwards, dealing with the vertical relation with God, we lay our hope and ask for guidance and assistance to God. We surrender and manifest gratitude only to God.

We have taken a long journey for many years. Day after day, we need to take a moment to stop, to see around and, in particular to look into our heart. Are we still stepping on the right path with a heart? Though a number of signals and queries have been forwarded, still we should not be conceited as if we know all the answers and take for granted that the problem is over. The truth that human can absorb is limited. There are always part of the truth to be neglected, possibly the ones that even the most essential.

To end my paper, may I draw a conclusion by quoting some words from Carlos Castaneda “The Teachings of Don Juan” …for me there is only the traveling on the paths that have a heart, on any path that have a heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge for me is to traverse its full length … looking, looking, breathlessly.

Thank you.

To Stop and Summon The Rain

To Stop and Summon The Rain or Make Clear Weather

Background

There are many activities, which still depend on the rain or sunlight. The influence of the rain in agriculture is very dominant. We remember there so many dry faming fields then they fail because of no rain. And, many damaged agriculture products which cannot be consumed and their price falls down because not enough heat of the sun to dry.

Grand meditation on the field during full moon dispersed and the participants found the place to take shelter. In other situation, the people, who devoted to pray Ied Sholat, were disturbed by sudden hard rain. Garden party dispersed because hard rain fell from the sky.

Is there anything to be blamed because of the harvest loss, suffered by farmers? Is there anyone to be the scapegoat for it? For example, ozone leak in earth atmosphere or global warming because of forest timber in Asia causes glass house effect, that disharmonize climate and weather order recently. Or the organizer forgets to call Rainfall Controler (magician), or forget to prepare 75 umbrellas, or fails to estimate the size of tarpaulin or stage screen. Of course, it is interesting for discussion!

Wise Attitude is Required

The temporary need to delay the rain, or to wait the sunlight to end the rain sometimes is required in the life of full mechanism and activities. In fact, there are many traditional societies from various ethnicities in Indonesia, who have ability to delay or summon the rain. Many rain makers in rural and urban areas can delay the rain. However, the power is not easily mastered and difficult to be given to others. So, the power cannot be categorized as science.

In this article, we will use Pranic Energy to delay and stop the rain. In urgent situation in long dry season, we can use Pranic Energy to summon the rain. Remember! It is not for a game, show of force nor egoism. Due to the fact that this phenomena are ordered by God, The game of rain-sunny for fun can cause the others suffer the loss. So, it needs to be wise to use the technique and we should respect other.

For example, we delay temporarily the rain in small area for our project interest and the rain stops for two weeks. Whereas, the farmers are spreading the seeds together and they need the rain. They will be sad because the seeds cannot grow well or the seeds will die because of dryness. On the contrary, when we want the rain fall temporarily for temporary interest, which is not really important, the others, who use the dry season, will get loss. For example, it disturbs tobacco pre-harvest season, salt-making season, and those who make event. Make sure that your action does not inflict your environs loss. Maybe, we can make argument, that if the pray for rain or sun heat is fulfilled, it means that God bless us. However, those who do not understand the technique and get the impact are very poor.

In this following discussion, we will explain how to delay or move the rain to the other place, where it is more needed, by using simple traditional technique with satisfying result, as well as its analysis. Then, we will explain how to move, delay and summon the rain by using pranic energy technique.

Traditional Simple Method to Delay The Rain

The traditional method to delay or move the rain sometimes seems ridiculous. However, in fact, the possibility is 75%. If it is done 4 times, 3 of them will be successful. This method is applied when someone have big event and he is afraid of the rain. There are various methods from various cultures. In Javanese culture, there are some popular ways, among others:

1. Throwing bride’s underwear up to the roof

2. 2. Making coconut-midribs broom stand up with chilies and red onions, sticked on the midribs,

Mmaking coconut-midribs stand up and spelling Kejawen mantra.

There is also possibility to use supra natural power to reject or more the rain, for example, by fasting, meditative ritual, and other kinds of devotion, such as istiqotsah. However, because we focus on Pranic Energy, we only explain simple traditional methods, as the references.

Traditional Method 1;

The bride throws her underwear up to the roof. it shows her submission and hope to God, who will realize her hope not to rain during her marriage ceremony. By throwing the underwear to the roof, she hopes that the water will be back to the sky and the rain cancels to fall. The basic belief of it is the same as the belief that the under tooth which fell out, should grow up, so people must throw it up to the roof. Whereas, they should burry upper tooth, which fell out, or throw it down, so the tooth will grow down soon.

Traditional Method 2;

The 2nd method is by sticking the midribs points of old-coconut midribs broom (”sapu gerang”) to red chilies then making it stand upside down. It can be used without praying or mantra. If we ask about it to most of people, they will answer that it will be hot and no rain. In the pranic perspective, red chili and onion have red pranic energy, whose the characteristics are warm, spreading, and widening dark cloud to be softer and more constructive. So, the dark cloud fade away and the rain does not fall. The situation become constructive and fresh. It has the same basic belief as the method to drive out the boring guest who has not gone home yet. Javanese girls use this method to drive out the boys, whom they do not like, on the Saturday night or the guest who will not go home soon.

The girls use “munthu” (javanese stone chili grinder), grinding the chilies on the mortar and from other room, pointing it toward the guest as if she grinded the chilies. In 5 –7 minutes, the guest will go home. The question is: Why does not she point the guest with ice or vegetable spoon? Can you answer it?

Traditional Method 3;

The third method is by making old-coconut midribs broom stand up side down and opening it wide. If necessary, tie it in the pole, so it will not fall. If it falls down, the rain will not fall. When the broom stands up side down to face the sky, hold the tie of the broom and spell the following mantra:

"Niat ingsun ora ngedekake sapu biasa, nanging sapu jagad kanggo ngresiki mendhung, udan lan angin saka daerah .... dibuang menyang ...., sawetara suwene wektu 3 jam, saking kersaning Allah ingkang murbeng jagad."

(“With my will, I am not standing ordinary broom, but sapu jagad (cosmos broom) to sweep the dark cloud and the rain in …. (name of location, city, residence where the rain will be moved) for.… hours, to move to … (location) where needs the rain. In the name of God, So Be It”).

We used to apply the third method before learning pranic energy. It is heritage from our mother from farmer family. We use this technique when we are drying the paddy after the crop, or when we have parties or outing activity and we worry about the rain in the time the moving cloud is dark. It has high possibility of 95% ( from 20 times, we did, only 1 fails). The important thing is that the broom faces the sky and the coconut ribs open wide to face all direction and the broom does not fall. For the beginner, the possibility starts 50%, and if you often do it, the universe and God, The Nature Phenomena Maker, will be familiar with you as the permanent customer, whose the pray deserves for fulfillment.

Now, the use of pranic energy can substitute for traditional techniques and ritual. It is more practical, without preparing the brooms and red chilies and onions. Before presenting the technique, firstly, we try to explain the concept, with the approach based on Pranic Art and Science, so it will be easier to understand.

PRANIC ENERGY FOR DELAYING OR SUMMONING THE RAIN

Pranic Energy is God bless and love to all creatures in the universe, especially human beings. Pranic Energy is energy related to the living space, which is available everywhere. God gives us energy through the various sources. The energy can come from the sun (Sun Pranic Energy) and also from the air (air vitality globules). The Pranic Energy also comes from the earth (earth vitality globules). Besides, there are other temporary sources of Pranic Energy, which however still give the power because they absorbs many energy of the sun, air and earth, e.g.: old fit big three, flowing water, foods, fresh vegetables and fruits. They also exist in the special sites, where many people pray or communicate with God, The Creator. We can also sense the great Pranic Eenergy in the natural places, such as mountain, valley, and green forest. On the contrary, only few Pranic Energy or dirty energy, which easily contaminate the environ is found in the indecent places, such as, hospital, manufacturer with full of pollution, forensic room, cemetery, the place over the septic tank.

According to the time, Pranic Energy will be spread out much at noon and on the contrary it will be empty in the midnight, around from 02.00 a.m., 03.00 a.m. to 04.00 a.m., in which the air Pranic Energy is very low so the people is very lazy to get up. They compete to get few Pranic Energy at those time by using long stomach breathing, as we inhale the Pranic Energy. After 05.00 a.m., they get up and thank God through morning prayer because they survive to live. They get vital energy and are ready for the new day with full of vital Pranic Energy of earth, air, sun in the day.

During the dark cloud or long rainy season, the days have limited Pranic Energy. In long time rain, dark cloudy, floods situation, many people lack of energy and easily get sick. We can feel that the weather, used to be clear, is suffering and sad and the sun is covered with the dark cloud. The vapor contaminates air Pranic Energy so the humidity becomes higher and the earth prana is covered with water. These phenomena motivate us as Pranic Healers to respond.

Pranic Science for Rain Phenomena

Some principles are considered to find Pranic Energy technique to move, delay, stop or summon the rain, based on the needs. The principles are as follows:

  • God, The Universe Creator, is The One Who posses nature phenomena of wind, rain, heat and earth quake.
  • Color pranas has their respective use, so the application of technique of color prana shall not be wrong.
  • The dark cloud and long time rain can decrease air prana.
  • Pranic Energy follows the mind, so it can be directed and programmed according to the will and needs with the God Will.
  • To delay or move or summon the rain, Pranic Energy needs enough and cumulative times.
  • To apply Pranic Healing Science and Arts, we need to combine aspects of arts and science.
  • Golden Rule is still effective although the characteristic is very simple.

Based on these principles, the important thing is that how to apply the technique in the Will of The Creator. Then, we should consider whether there will be parties, who will suffer loss, if the rain or sunny day happens, because Golden Rule is still valid.

Make program when it will stop and when it will rain by considering that to stop the rain usually is faster. To program to make the rain fall in the dry season or in the clear weather, it needs enough duration to accumulate enough humidity. Base on our experience, sometimes, in the clear weather, the rain can fall hard sooner as we programmed. In this case, we need not only scientific approach but also arts.

The art approach in this case is our belief to successfully reject, delay or summon the rain. Doubt can resist the program because energy follows thought. Other approach is visualization and program of the time to stop energizing.

Applicable Technique with Pranic Energy

After understanding the principles, we can use the technique and choose certain Pranic Energy to respond hot weather and rain phenomena.

This technique employs method and concept of Advanced Pranic Energy technique by beloved Master Choa Kok Sui, which the benefits have been experienced by us.

It does not mean that Basic Level Technique, using White Prana, is not applicable. It is for the effectiveness. However, novice Pranic Healers have not fully learned ability in visualization and contemplation to use color Pranic Energy.

TECHNIQUE TO DELAY OR TRANSFER THE RAIN

TECHNIQUE TO SUMMON THE RAIN

Closing

In fact, by applying the technique to move, delay, or summon the rain to the place where the rain is needed, we experience the Blessing of The Universal God, The Lord of Universe. .

The Science and Arts to reject and summon the rain with Pranic Energy is not for show of power nor for fun. To do it for fun means to toy with Creator of Universe. Consequently, only wise persons can experience this benefit.

This article has been published in MediaPrana no. 7, September 1999. It has been discussed in National Pranic Healers Convention I in Jakarta in 2000, World Pranic Healers Convention in Bali in 2002, National Pranic Healers Gathering in Salatiga in 2006, and now it is published completely here. For those who have applied it successfully, please send us your testimonial.

We wish it useful and Pranic regards!

Solution For Super Bones

Superfoods Solution For Super Bones

by: Paul Hata

Many people believe that the primary cause of osteoporosis is the lack of calcium in their diet. However, in the overall picture, calcium is only a small piece of the puzzle. Though calcium supplements can certainly help, there are other dietary concerns that need to be examined.

Actually, the primary dietary cause of osteoporosis is the eating foods that are highly acidic in nature, such as refined white sugar, refined white flour, high-fructose corn syrup, soft drinks, cookies, candies, sweets, desserts, and anything containing sweeteners.

The over-consumption of these products causes the pH level in your blood to become very acidic. In an attempt to counterbalance this, your body reaches out for any calcium and magnesium it can find, and releases those into your bloodstream in an attempt to keep the pH level at a healthy balance.

Therefore, with every soft drink, candy, cake and goodie you indulge in, you are robbing your skeleton of its bone density. The calcium and magnesium the body harvests in an attempt to counteract this acidic environment gets passed through your kidneys, where it can also contribute to kidney stones and exits your body through your urine.

To prevent losing your bone mass to dietary causes, simply avoid consuming any white flour, processed sugars, added sugars, soft drinks, sweets, candies, breads, or any other ingredients that are made with refined carbohydrates.

In addition, certain superfoods, like broccoli, cabbage, celery and other dark green leafy vegetables help keep the pH balance in a healthy equilibrium. You need to get plenty of calcium and magnesium from healthy sources such as organic, plant-based vitamins. You also need to supplement your diet with various sea vegetables, which are naturally alkaline. Those include seaweed, kelp, and many others. Sprouts are also an awesome superfood choice.

Blueberries have been shown to shield the brain from stress, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. Research has also shown that diets rich in blueberries significantly improved both the learning capacity and motor skills.

Avocados, though considered a fatty fruit, contribute to healthy blood flow and decreased blood pressure, lessening the chances of developing hypertension, which can lead to a stroke.
Deep-water fish, such as salmon is a wise, freshwater fish choice. It's abundant in omega-3 essential fatty acids, which are essential for healthy brain function.

Nuts and seeds are good sources of vitamin E, an important vitamin needed by your brain to stave off declining cognitive functions. Cashews, peanuts, walnuts, sunflower and sesame seeds and almonds are all great choices.

Whole-grain breads, brown rice, and oatmeal also contribute to a healthy brain by reducing the risk for cardiac disease. By promoting a healthy heart and improved blood flow, the brain is sure to thrive via excellent oxygen and nutrient delivery through the bloodstream. Complex carbohydrates also supply the brain with a steady stream of glucose that enhances brain function.

It's important to avoid simple carbohydrates often found in junk food because the glucose gives the brain a short-lived sugar high, often followed by a crash that makes you feel hungry and tired.

Freshly brewed tea also has potent antioxidants, especially the class known as catechines, which also promotes healthy blood flow. Since black teas do contain caffeine it's important to use it sensibly.

Dark chocolate has powerful antioxidant properties, contains several natural stimulants, which enhance focus and concentration, and encourages the production of endorphins, which helps improve mood. Again, moderation is the key.

Raw Food Lifestyle

The Benefits and Challenges of a Raw Food Lifestyle

by: Kevin Gianni
This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni's Renegade Roundtable, which can be found at http://www.RenegadeRoundtable.com. In this excerpt, Dhrumil Purohit shares on his journey to a raw food lifestyle, including the benefits and the challenges. Renegade Water Secrets with Dhrumil Purohit, the lead contributory, visionary and creator of welikeitraw.com and giveittomeraw.com.

Kevin: Well, let's get right into it. For those people who have never heard of you, they soon will, and why don't you just tell us a little bit about how you started into this and how you got to where you are now.

Dhru: Sure. First of all, again, thank you for having me here. And everybody who's listening in, it's an honor to be here. The thing that I enjoy the most is connecting with other individuals, and that drives everything that I do. So to connect and build communities, that's been such an important part of my journey and that's actually how I got started.

My dietary journey started where at a conference I heard Ingrid Newkirk. She's the president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. She was talking about milk, blah, blah, blah this, and dairy cows blah, blah, blah, that and at that time my level of consciousness wasn't hip to maybe the plight of certain animals. But she mentioned something that really hit me, she said, "Blah, blah, blah, if you get rid of milk then you might see your acne go away." I was in high school at the time, I'm trying to talk to girls, I'm trying to be a more social individual, but even though I had been raised vegetarian, coming from an Indian background, I always dealt with acne. So when she said that I said, "Ok, you know what, she say's that in about a month's time you can start to see a major difference, so let me get rid of the dairy in my diet." So when I got rid of the diary in my diet, naturally people ask you, "What the heck are you doing?" So you have to read up on it and you have to get educated a little bit and that's when I finally started to understand and make the connection, that even though I was brought up vegetarian I had never really understood fully the connection between food and health.

Then once that started, for a year and a half, as many people there have kind of gotten their start, I was a processed vegan. I was eating soy burgers and tofutti and carbitarian totally all the way. The finally one day at a health food store, in the aisle, I'm shopping for my produce and I see this guy who I've seen like a hundred times before shopping at the same organic co-op. And I always noticed that the whites of his eyes are really white, he was a very fit gentleman, he looked fairly young as well.

So I went up to him and I finally said, "Hey bro, what is it that you actually do? What is it that you eat?" And he was like, "Oh, man I'm into raw food." And I was like, "Raw food, what is that?" And over the next 40 minutes, this gentleman, who's name is actually Nature Love, kind of over the next 45 minutes gave me a full breakdown of the relationship between food and why raw food matters and how it can improve the health. And from that day, which was the year 2001, that's when my journey really began. It was on that day.

Kevin: Wow, that's pretty nice. Let's just get right into it here. What are some of the biggest challenges that you encountered from that day till now that really stand out in you head, that say, "This is what happened, here's how I dealt with it and here's how I'm better because of it?"

Dhru: Sure, absolutely. Well one of the things that I talk about a lot is the physiological challenges and I noticed that... I'll give you a specific example, when I first started my journey after meeting Nature, the next day Nature, after I met up with him in the aisle, he came over to my place to show me and my roommate a little bit about raw foods. And when Nature told me that he was 40, and this guy literally, like... there's photos of him on our website, welikeitraw.com, you can see how fit he is, how young he looks. When he told me he was 40-years-old I totally flipped. I was like, "OK, I'm doing this today."

So that was the first biggest challenge that I faced, I went 100 percent overnight embarking on raw foods. And what kept me going solid 100 percent for the first 8 months was discipline and excitement. Sheer excitement because I was looking forward to the future. I kept on thinking that in the future this will all be worth it and I'll be at some place where my health and everything else will click and it won't be as tough as it is now. And then discipline, which is simply one desire that's trumping another desire. I had this desire to look fit, to be energetic, to be healthy, and then I also had this desire to eat a donut or eat this, or eat that.

But my desire for being fit and healthy was strongest. But the challenge with discipline is, after a certain time, because discipline comes from a place of desire, discipline will always fail you. At some point in time discipline will always fail you because resisting your desires is... well it's resisting your desires. It's still a desire that's inside of you. So for eight months solid I was going through the physiological challenges of wanting to stick to this thing, I felt good, but I had all these desires inside to try different foods, to eat different things.

And it was right around that point, that after I, at the time I considered it "'failing." I failed on my raw food diet by yo-yoing back and forth; I realized that there was a better way, a smarter way, a more intelligent way to approach diet. And, yes there were some very practical things that I did to improve my relationship with food. Having more green smoothies, having some transitional foods, things like that.

But overall I saw that the biggest shift, the thing that benefited me the most, and now I'm seeing that it's benefiting so many other people as well too, is that to actually ask yourself, "Why am I doing this in the first place? Am I waiting for the future to be better than the present moment? Am I doing this because someday I think things will be better?" It's all right to have goals, it's all right to have health goals, it's all right to build a foundation, but the biggest challenge that I see is that a lot of people have, regardless of whatever dietary regimen they're trying to follow, if they're trying to just eat healthier, or exercise more, they are their biggest enemy because of these physiological battles they play with themselves back and forth.

It's easy to open up a book and know what to do. There are so many nutrition books and websites that are out there that give you great information now, especially with things like Goggle. And you can see what you can do.

The same thing goes with exercise. But when you look at it, it's not that people have a problem with information they have this physiological battle with identifying themselves with certain goals and living in the future instead of bringing their attention back into the present moment.
Kevin: So you said in that first eight months you were living in the future, correct?

Dhru: Yeah, I was living in the future. I was just constantly thinking that things will be better, it'll be easier. I'm eating towards some future goal; I'm eating towards some future goal of being fit in my ideal version of what I had as fitness in my head. And then also along with that I was identifying with something, my ego was identifying with the concept of being 100 percent raw.

Which, I'm sure Kevin, you've seen with the excellent work that you do, a lot of people probably write in to you that say they need to be 100 percent raw but they can't. And that's just some arbitrary goal. That doesn't mean that I was actually any healthier, I was just fixated on this concept of being 100 percent raw.

So instead of being 100 percent healthy and just enjoying and having a beautiful relationship with food, I was focused on this arbitrary idea of being 100 percent raw because I thought that it would bring me something that wasn't something that I had with me right then and there at that moment. I was looking to diet as a way to fulfill me, which is an exact example of people that have really bad challenges with food. They're looking to food for fulfillment. People that go through, I don't want to speak personally, because I haven't gone through this, but from what I've read, individuals that suffer through bulimia and other eating disorders, often what they're looking for in certain ways is that they treat food as a vehicle to fulfillment, to fulfill them even if they don't want to eat it. They're rejecting food as a way to fulfillment with something to fulfill themselves with something that isn't with them right then and there.

I know it starts to become really abstract, but the easiest way to say it is that just take a look at anything that you're doing in your life right now. And if you're running off of shear discipline, if you're running off the hope that someday in the future that you'll make it, the chances are that you're going to face so many more struggles along your journey.

As opposed to the flip side is, everybody wants a challenge, everybody is down for a good challenge and the difference between a challenge and a struggle is the added dimension of resistance. When you go through a struggle, when you're yo-yoing in your diet, when you can't stick to your exercise plan, when you're having a hard time doing something that you want to do, that's a struggle.

And what accompanies a struggle is resistance. You're resisting something; you're resisting something that you're not ready to be at a level that you want to be at. Maybe you need to go slower. Whatever it is that you're resisting, because you're resisting it you're using discipline as a way to kind of mask that, to kind of keep your eyes not focused on the total picture. And then you end up sending yourself back further because you haven't actually taken baby steps to build a proper foundation in whatever journey you're trying to make progress in.

Enjoy the Bargaining

by: Bernard Prasodjo

When we go shopping to famous Mangga Dua, Jakarta, usually we are walking from one shop to another, from one corner to another, and we are bargaining here and there to get the cheapest price. Sometimes, we are back to the shop, which we have visited because it sets cheapest price, even if the difference is only 5 cent for the goods of 10 dollar. Actually, if we count the spent time and wasted energy to get lowest price, the difference of the price is nonsensical. Unfortunately, we did it for satisfaction.

Or sometimes we do not want to understand. When we want to by art craft, we frequently make calculation about the painting with the price of USD 5.000. -, then we say: “It’s too expensive!” The most expensive canvas is only 50 dollar. The paint is only 30 dollar and it only spends three days to make it. So, the painting budget does not reach 100 dollar. If added with profit, the most expensive price is supposed to be 150 dollar. Sometimes, there are some people who have that opinion notwithstanding the art value. It is better not to say that, if you do not have willing to buy. Even if in your mind, do not even think about that.

When one of my friends accompanied Master Choa to take a walk in art market in Jakarta, Master was interested to buy a big crystal stone in a stall. After asking about the price, my friend started bargaining then the price was agreed but my friend was surprised when Master paid the stone with previous price of label. So, my friend’s bargaining was useless. However, the seller must be happy because he had reasonable profit.

In other day, after alumni meeting in Padang, a trainer from Jakarta wanted to buy ceramic statue. The hosts, some students, the trainer and Master Herminia took a walk to the shop in the corner across the street. After looking around, they decided the statue to buy and asked about the price. The Chinese seller, who was not fluently speaking Bahasa, haltingly said the price was three hundred thousand rupiah (USD 30. -). Immediately, taking money from her wallet, Master Herminia said, “Let me pay, I will take it as a gift.” Then, a friend from Padang started to bargain. He started from a hundred thousand, a hundred and twenty thousand, a hundred and twenty five thousand, and then it increased to a hundred and fifty thousand. The seller gradually decreased the price and then the seller set the price of two hundred thousand. Both parties kept bargaining. Master Herminia only kept silent but there was something disturbing her feeling. Then, the group pretended to leave the shop and finally the seller gave in to sell the statue for one hundred fifty thousand rupiah.

What we can learn from above story? Do you remember the ”Golden Rule?” The Yin Golden Rule states: Don’t do to other what you don’t want the other do to you. Whereas, Yang Golden Rule states: Do to the other what you want the other do to you! So, if we do not want to be forced (in this case, to be totally bargained), do not force other. Or if we want to have many profits, abundance, give the benefit or decent fortune to other.

In English, to bargain comes from the base word bar and gain. Bar = to prohibit or resist, gain = get income, profit, fortune. So to bargain is to resist the other’s fortune. If we do it, our fortune will be resisted. We can bargain but don’t make their profit become very small. The saying says ”Take the coconut milk but don’t squeeze too hard to leave coconut waste.” It’s Ok if we do small bargaining. If finally it is too expensive, so, it is the fortune for him. Don’t be afraid to do that. Don’t be afraid that our cost will be higher because by doing it, our income will be higher, even it will be higher than the cost by not doing bargaining too much.

If we know that the price of good or service, we want, is too expensive or not reasonable, don’t buy, with the positive attitude, just find the goods with the same type and normal price in other place. We do not need to say ”it’s too expensive”, ”I don’t have money”, ”it’s not easy to get money,” and other similar sentences, because it is the state of negative mind and if you repeat it again and again, it will come true. However, if you have bought it, nothing more can be done and just be generous because it is the profit for the seller and pray that the profit can help to increase his spirituality.

What if we have goodwill to educate the seller, who sells with not normal price or wants to cheat, so he/she will be free from bad karma? It is good if we have that goodwill. However, it spends long time to give new understanding. To say words is not enough to change people’s behavior. So, skill, very soft spiritual energy, strong and clean aura is needed. Moreover, it has not been the part of our duty.

Your Endocrine System

What Does Your Endocrine System Do?
Author: Marshall Swerman

The endocrine system consists of glands that, through the secretion of hormones, regulate just about every aspect of your body in very specific ways. Almost every cell and organ of the body is regulated by the endocrine system.

The word endocrine is derived from the Greek terms "endo" meaning within and "krine" meaning to secrete or separate. The glands in the endocrine system secrete hormones within the body.

A hormone is a chemical substance produced in the body that controls and regulates the activity of certain cells or organs. These hormones are the messengers of the endocrine system, influencing such things as metabolic activity, reproduction, mood, growth and body development. It's interesting that the word hormone is derived from the Greek "hormao" meaning "I set in motion" or "I stir up". This is exactly what hormones do.

So, a gland secretes a hormone into the blood and that hormone circulates throughout the body. When it meets up with the organ of the body it is supposed to have an effect upon that hormone goes into the cells of that organ and produces the required effect.

The way the system is built a hormone only affects the organ it is supposed to effect. This is due to the fact that each hormone molecule has a different shape. The cells that are supposed to be controlled by that hormone "recognize" that particular shape. The part of the body which is affected by a particular hormone is called the "target organ".

Some of the major glands of the endocrine system are:
  • Pituitary gland
  • Hypothalamus
  • Pineal Gland
  • Thyroid
  • Parathyroids
  • Adrenal Glands
  • Reproductive Glands (including ovaries and testes)
The Pituitary Gland, although no bigger than a pea, is considered the most important part of the endocrine system. It's often called the "master gland" because it makes hormones that control other endocrine glands. One of the essential hormones released by the pituitary is the Human Growth Hormone which stimulates the growth of bone and other body tissues and plays a role in the body's handling of nutrients and minerals.

They Hypothalamus is the main link between the endocrine and nervous systems. One of its functions is to control the pituitary gland.

The cone-shaped Pineal Gland secretes a hormone called melatonin which is thought to regulate sleep patterns.

Thyroid hormones control the rate at which the body burns fuel.

Among other functions, the Adrenal Glands produce a hormone called epinephrine or adrenaline which control the body's "fight or flight" mechanism by controlling blood pressure and heart rate.
The Parathyroids are attached to the thyroid. They are responsible for regulating the amount of calcium in the blood.

Reproductive Glands are the main source of sex hormones and control many of the reproductive functions of the human body.

Endocrine system or hormone problems can come about when any one of these glands produces too much or too little of its hormone. The type and extent of any hormone disorder determines the treatment.

Using supplements to support a healthy immune system should become a part of your daily healthy living routine.
